Green Tea Lemonade

I’m all about sipping a hot tea by the fire during the winter to relax, but this is absolutely unreasonable when summer hits (this could not be more true as I write this during a heat wave). Luckily, tea drinkers have a chilly alternative - iced tea! I love this recipe because it is so versatile you can simply make an iced green tea or sweeten it with a simple syrup or add the lemon juice to give it a lemonade twist. You choose! It’s nice to keep a jug of this in the fridge for when you get bored of drinking water during the day. Plus, you can save some money instead of hitting up a cafe.

Prep time: 10 min Total time: 1 hr. Servings: 5-6 people

Ingredients:

For the Tea:

4-5 bags of oolong green tea

2 cups of boiling water

1/2 cup simple syrup

1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 8-9 lemons)

lemon and mint for garnish

For the Simple Syrup:

1 cup of water

1 cup of sugar or 3/4 cups honey

Instructions:

Step 1: Boil 2 cups of water.

Step 2: Place 4-5 green tea bags in the bottom of a heat-safe pitcher.

Step 3: Pour boiling water over tea bags and cover the pitcher with a tea towel or lid for 8-10 min. Remove tea bags once the timer is up.

Step 4: Make your simple syrup. Bring water & sugar or honey to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 5 or so minutes until it starts to thicken up. Transfer to a heat safe container to let cool.

Step 5: Pour over ice and garnish with mint and more lemon slices!
